As any rider will tell you, the journey is as important as the destination, and in Volusia County, Florida, the journey is amazing.
As a former licensed superbike rider and now Manager of Corporate Partnerships and Events at the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, I’ve seen firsthand how the Daytona Beach area speaks to riders of all stripes.
Every day I ride to work from New Smyrna Beach, through beautiful Daytona Beach, all the way to Ormond Beach, taking in the coastal breeze along A1A and enjoying the nostalgia of US 1.
These byways offer daily reminders of why we ride. From the rising sun over the Atlantic Ocean, the scent of the salt air, and the smile that a “motorcycle wave” puts on my face on the open road, what I see on my commute is the kind of beauty that most only find in videos or travel magazines. And it’s right here in our backyard in the Daytona Beach area.
With Florida’s heat and humidity, I always make sure to crack open the vents on my helmet — not only to stay cool and avoid overheating but to take in that salty sea air that makes coastal riding so special. It’s a small move that makes a big difference in comfort and awareness during the ride.
Central Florida is a rider’s paradise. From shaded backroads to vibrant beach towns, Volusia County offers something for every type of motorcyclist. It’s also home to the most iconic motorcycle rallies in the country. Bike Week and Biketoberfest® draw riders from across the nation and the world — bringing energy, camaraderie, and unforgettable experiences.
But big crowds also mean a bigger need for awareness. During rallies, my single biggest piece of advice is to bring your patience! Slow down in congested areas and watch for pedestrians and distracted drivers while you’re out there. Riding predictably and respectfully helps keep everyone safe and lets the good times roll without interruption.
Safety isn’t just a rally concern; it’s a daily commitment for me and should be for you, too. No matter the ride, no matter the distance, always remember: ATGATT: All the gear, all the time. It’s more than just a saying, it’s a mindset that protects you, mile after mile.
