Florida Veterans Who Ride

Freedom, Camaraderie, and the Open Road

Veterans across Florida continue their legacy of service on two wheels. Many veterans find fulfillment in riding and being active members of the motorcycle community, where camaraderie and commitment continue to drive them forward.

Their sense of brotherhood and sisterhood extends beyond club lines. Veteran riders look out for one another, checking bikes before long rides, promoting proper gear, encouraging safe formation riding, and offering mentorship to new or returning riders.

Veterans have a strong sense of duty to look out for one another, treating their comrades as family. This mentality naturally translates into a strong safety culture.

Whether participating in Veterans Day events or memorial rides, veteran riders honor fallen comrades and uplift communities through acts of kindness and dedication. One moving tribute is ALR’s Boots on the Ground, where thousands of boots line the roadway, each pair representing a U.S. service member or first responder who lost their life on September 11, 2001. Passing these boots is a somber reminder of the ultimate sacrifice amplifying the importance of vigilance and safety on the road. Driven by this spirit of remembrance, veteran riders lead motorcycle safety awareness by:

  • Encouraging proper protective gear, including a DOT-compliant helmet
  • Promoting motorcycle safety events statewide
  • Modeling responsible group riding
  • Staying visible by using headlights, wearing bright and reflective gear, and staying in clear view of drivers
  • Riding defensively by anticipating that other drivers may not notice them and keeping an exit strategy, such as quick stops or lane changes

For veteran and civilian riders alike, this dedication keeps safety at the forefront of every ride. “For the next generation of riders, it’s just awareness, looking out for fellow veterans, keeping your head on a swivel and making sure you’re aware of your surroundings, just like when we were in service, same applies out of service,” shared retired Army First Sgt. Wayne Schorr, a member of the American Legions Riders.

FMSP proudly supports Florida’s veterans who continue to serve their country and their communities, both on and off the road. Their commitment to service and safety inspires us all. Thank you for your service, Veterans.
