RideSMART Florida Offers Free Motorcycle Safety Courses Across the State

Free Motorcycle Safety Courses in Florida

RideSMART Florida is expanding its free training opportunities with more Safe Motorcycle and Rider Techniques (S.M.A.R.T.) courses. These advanced riding classes are designed to help motorcyclists improve their real-world street skills in a controlled, skill-focused environment. The goal of each S.M.A.R.T. course is “to help students demonstrate safe motorcycle riding techniques by negotiating commonly found street riding situations in a controlled and skill-oriented manner.”

This year, classes are being offered in six areas around Florida: Collier County,  Osceola,  Gainesville,  Jacksonville, Palm Beach County, and Tampa. For full course listings, select the location nearest to you.

 

 

What to bring to class:

  • Valid driver’s license with motorcycle endorsement
  • A mechanically sound, registered motorcycle (no leaks, worn tires, etc.)
  • Department of Transportation-approved helmet
  • Gloves
  • Over-the-ankle footwear
  • Long pants
  • Long-sleeve shirt or lightweight jacket
  • Eye protection (sunglasses or eyeglasses are acceptable)
  • Water, Gatorade, or other nonalcoholic beverages
  • Sunscreen, rain gear, and a change of clothes (recommended)
  • Optional snacks (note: no lunch break provided)

The Florida Motorcycle Safety Program (FMSP), established by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, is a statewide initiative committed to reducing motorcycle crashes and fatalities. In collaboration with ABATEALR, and L.A.M.A.—FMSP brings together diverse voices and trusted leadership to promote responsible riding and protect motorcyclists on Florida’s roads.
