STAY IN CONTROL: GREASE AND TIRES DON’T MIX

Summer Tire Safety

Motorcyclist crouches beside a bike while checking it before a ride.

Shiny tires may look appealing, but they are not the safest for motorcycles. While car tires are sometimes treated with products to protect against UV exposure and general wear, motorcycle tires are engineered for maximizing grip and performance on the road.

Parked motorcycles lined up outside, highlighting the importance of clean, dry tires for rider safety.

Avoid the Slide: What Greasy Tires Can Do:

  • Cause the bike to lose traction on turns
  • Increase stopping distance
  • Reduce braking effectiveness
  • Create sudden instability or fishtailing
  • Lead to a preventable crash

Motorcycle tires perform best when clean and dry. Grease or oil on tires reduces grip and poses a danger to both the rider and surrounding motorists. With Florida’s unpredictable weather and busy highways, riders should perform periodic inspections to ensure tires don’t have residual road oil, and check tire condition and pressure.

What To Do If Grease Gets on Your Tire

  1. Do not ride immediately.
  2. Clean the tire(s) completely with a manufacturer-approved cleaner.
  3. Have the tire inspected by a qualified professional.
  4. When in doubt, replace the tire.

Your tires are the only connection between your motorcycle and the road. Stay in control. Arrive alive!
